PASSIVE VOICE

A.  Pengertian Passive Voice

Dalam bahasa Inggris, ada dua cara untuk membentuk sebuah kalimat, mereka adalah kalimat aktif dan kalimat pasif. Dalam kalimat aktif, fokus pada subjek/ pelakunya, sedangkan pada kalimat pasif berfokus dari subjek menjadi objek.

B.   Rumus passive voice

Tense	Be + Past Participle  (PP)	Example
Present  Simple	Am, is, are + PP	Is send
Present Progressive	Am, is, are + being + PP	Is being send
Present Perfect	Has, have + been + PP	Has been send
Past Simple	Was, were + PP	Was send
Past Progressive	Was, were + being + PP	Was being send
Past Perfect	Had + been + PP	Had been send
Future ( will )	Will + be + PP	Will be send
Future ( going to )	Am, is, are + going to be + PP	Are going to be send
Future Perfect	Will + have been + PP	Will have been send

Contoh : 1. ( Aktif ) : Tony eats the cake ( Toni memakan kue itu ).

              ( pasif ) : The cake is eaten by Tony ( kue itu dimakan oleh Tony ).

2. ( Aktif ) : my father is drinking a cup of coffee (ayahku  minum secangkir teh ).

( pasif ) : a cup of coffee is being drank ( secangkir kopi itu diminum ).

3.  ( Aktif ) : somebody has stolen my car (seseorang telah mencuri mobilku).

                 ( pasif ) : my car has been stolen ( mobilku telah dicuri ).

        C. Penggunaan Passive Voice

passive voice digunakan jika :

1.    Subject atau pelakunya tidak penting.     

                      a. The door is closed at the night.

     b. The office is locked every evening

2.    Subject atau pelakunya tidak diketahui.

v  My bag is taken

v  His bicycle was stolen

3.    Subject atau pelakunya sudah jelas

Ø  The criminal is arrested in front of the station

Ø  The subway was used quite a bit in this city.
