Penjelasan tentang Reported Speech

REPORTED SPEECH

Ketika kita ingin menyampaikan atau melaporkan apa yang telah dikatakan seseorang, biasanya kita menggunakan kalimat tidak langsung ( Indirect / reported speech ).

Dalam kalimat Langsung (direct speech) ditandai dengan pengunaan tanda petik (“…”). Contoh : Dilan said. “I am starving.” Sedangkan di dalam kalimat tidak langsung ( Indirect / reported speech ), kita merubah beberapa kata dan tidak menggunakan tanda petik. Contohnya : Dilan said (that) he was starving.

Ketika kita ingin menyampaikan apa yang telah dikatakan seseorang, tenses normalnya berubah. Berikut ini adalah beberapa perubahan tenses tersebut :

Direct speech	Indirect speech
Present simple She said, “It is fresh.”	Past simple She said it was fresh.
Present continuous He said, “I’m studying English poem.”	Past continuous He said he was studying English poem.
Present perfect simple She said, “I have finished.”	Past perfect simple She said she had finished.
Present perfect continuous Tom said, “I have been teaching English for three years.”	Past perfect continuous He said he had been teaching English for three years.
Past simple She said, “I arrived late.”	Past perfect She said she had arrived late.
Past continuous He said, “I was having dinner.”	Past perfect continuous He said he had been having dinner.
Past perfect Sue said, “I had seen the movie before.”	Past perfect NO CHANGE – She said she had seen the movie before.
Past perfect continuous He said, “I had been working hard all day.”	Past perfect continuous NO CHANGE – He said he had been working ahrd all day.

JIka kita melaporkan perkataan seseorang , maka biasanya terjadi perubahan waktu. Berikut ini adalah perubahan waktu tersebut :

Contohnya:

Direct speech	Indirect Speech
Tom said, “I am listening to music now.” She said, “I want to meet you here.” He said, “I will come tomorrow.” She said, “I learn English today.” He said, “I will have my dinner with you tonight.	He said he was listening to music then. She said she wanted to meet you there. He said he would come the next day. She said she learnt English that day. He said He would have his dinner with you that night.
